Suwanee HVAC Emergency Services — No Heat? Call Now

*Estimated Read Time: 9 minutes* No heat never happens at a convenient time. If your home is cold and the thermostat will not respond, you need fast emergency furnace repair before frozen pipes or unsafe conditions set in. This guide shows what to check right now, when to call 24/7 for urgent help, and how to prevent the next no-heat scare. We also cover priority response options and savings if you need work today. ## Signs Your No-Heat Situation Is a True Emergency A chilly room is frustrating. Certain symptoms mean you should call right away because delay could risk your safety or cause costly damage. 1. You smell gas or rotten eggs. - Leave the home and call your gas utility and an HVAC pro from a safe location. 2. The furnace runs but only blows cold air in freezing weather. - Pipes can freeze in a few hours when temps drop below 28°F. 3. The system short-cycles or will not start after several resets. - This can indicate flame, pressure, or limit switch issues. 4. Breaker trips again immediately after you reset it. - This may point to a short or failing motor. 5. You hear screeching, grinding, or loud banging. - Shut the system off to prevent further damage. Atlanta cold snaps can hit fast, especially north of the Perimeter along GA‑400. If you check two or more items above, treat it as urgent and call now. ## Quick Checks You Can Do in Five Minutes Before you assume the furnace is broken, run through these safe homeowner checks. Many no-heat calls are solved here. 1. Thermostat - Make sure it is set to Heat and the setpoint is at least 3°F above room temp. - Replace batteries if your thermostat uses them. 2. Power and Breakers - Check the furnace switch near the unit. It should be ON. - Inspect the breaker panel and reset any tripped breaker once. 3. Air Filter - A clogged filter can trip safety limits. Replace if dirty. 4. Vents and Returns - Open supply vents and clear returns. Blocked airflow can cause overheating. 5. Condensate and Intake - High efficiency furnaces can lock out if the drain is clogged or PVC intake is blocked by debris or ice. Clear what you can access safely. 6. Gas Valve - For gas furnaces, confirm the shutoff handle at the appliance is in line with the pipe. If the furnace still will not heat, schedule emergency service. Fast diagnosis saves parts, time, and comfort. ## What Our Technician Checks During Emergency Furnace Repair When you call for emergency service, you want a fix on the first visit. Our trained tech will arrive with stocked parts and move through a proven process. - Interview and History - Symptoms, noises, smells, and any recent work or outages. - Safety and Utilities - Gas pressure, electrical readings, combustion air, and venting. - Controls and Sensors - Thermostat signals, flame sensor, pressure switch, rollout and limit switches. - Ignition and Combustion - Hot surface igniter or spark system, flame stability, and CO levels. - Motors and Airflow - Draft inducer, blower motor and wheel, belt tension, static pressure. - Heat Exchanger and Drainage - Visual checks for cracks or corrosion and clear condensate flow. You receive clear findings, repair options, and pricing before work begins. If a replacement is the safer or more economical path, we present code-compliant options and, when applicable, financing paths. ## Common Emergency Furnace Failures in Metro Atlanta Homes Our climate and housing stock create some repeat offenders. Here is what we fix most during emergency calls. 1. Dirty Flame Sensor - Results in ignition then shutdown. Often solved with cleaning or replacement. 2. Failed Hot Surface Igniter - The furnace never lights. A common wear item with a quick swap. 3. Pressure Switch or Inducer Issues - Caused by clogged venting or failing motors. We test and replace as needed. 4. Blower Motor or Capacitor Failure - Air does not move. Overheating risks and limit trips follow quickly. 5. Limit Switch Trips - Often tied to dirty filters, closed vents, or airflow restrictions. 6. Condensate Blockages - High efficiency units shut down to protect the system. 7. Control Board Faults - Error codes and inconsistent behavior that return after resets. Our trucks carry the parts to resolve most of these on the first visit, day or night. ## When Repair vs Replacement Makes Sense in an Emergency No one plans for a furnace failure. We help you decide quickly with a simple framework. - Choose Repair if: 1. The unit is under 10 years old and well maintained. 2. The failure is a single wear part with no safety concerns. 3. Total repair cost is under one third of a comparable new system. - Consider Replacement if: 1. The heat exchanger is cracked or the system is unsafe to operate. 2. The unit is 12 to 20 years old and has rising repair frequency. 3. You have high gas bills due to low efficiency and poor airflow. Every recommendation includes a clear total, warranty details, and timeline. If you move forward with a new system, we will provide a complimentary one-year maintenance agreement to protect your investment. ## How Priority Service Works When You Have a Plan During peak cold, schedules fill within hours. Our Total Comfort Service Plan keeps you at the front of the line. - Same-day service on covered systems is guaranteed for plan members, with parts and labor included on repairs listed in your agreement. - Semiannual tune-ups reduce surprise failures and catch worn parts early. - Many common components are covered at no charge during your membership. - Plan membership extends to new installations for the first year at no cost. This is dangerous and can produce carbon monoxide. - Do not repeatedly reset the breaker if it trips again. Call for service. - Do not bypass safety switches. They are doing their job. - Do not run portable heaters unattended or near curtains and bedding. If you suspect a gas leak, leave the house, contact your gas utility, then call us from a safe place. ## What to Expect When You Call 24/7 We make emergency service simple and transparent from the first touch. 1. Call or text anytime. You reach a live team that can dispatch after-hours. 2. We confirm your address, access notes, pets, and parking details to speed arrival. 3. Our team has served Atlanta homes for over 125 years. That experience shows in faster diagnosis, cleaner work, and repairs that last. ## Cost Factors for Emergency Furnace Repair Pricing is straightforward and reviewed before work begins. Final cost depends on: - Time of service and access conditions - System type and efficiency level - Part availability and warranty status - Extent of cleaning or remediation needed Plan members enjoy same-day service with parts and labor included on covered items. Ask us to review your coverage before we start. ## Preventing the Next No-Heat Scare A few small habits will keep your furnace steady through the next cold snap. - Replace filters every 1 to 3 months depending on your home and allergy needs. - Keep 3 feet of clearance around the furnace for airflow and safety. - Seal leaky ducts and balance airflow to reduce strain on the blower. - Book pre-season tune-ups. A fall inspection is the best insurance against emergencies. - Add surge protection to protect boards and motors during storms. If your system is older, consider proactive replacement in the off-season for better pricing and schedule flexibility. ## Proudly Serving Greater Atlanta, Fast We respond quickly across the metro, including Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Alpharetta, Marietta, Brookhaven, Smyrna, Dunwoody, Lawrenceville, and Snellville. Smyrna, GA Emergency HVAC Services: Fast AC Fixes

*Estimated Read Time: 9 minutes* AC dead in the middle of a Georgia heat wave? Start here. This emergency AC repair checklist shows what to try in minutes, what to avoid, and when to call for professional help. If you still need service, Moncrief Heating & Air Conditioning is ready to respond. Call or Text 24/7 for rapid dispatch and clear next steps. ## The first 5 minutes: a calm, fast checklist When the system goes silent, act quickly and avoid guesswork. These steps rule out common, safe-to-fix issues. 1. Confirm the thermostat settings. - Set to Cool. - Fan to Auto. - Target temperature at least 3 degrees below room temperature. 2. Check power at the thermostat. - If the screen is blank, replace batteries if it uses them. 3. Inspect the indoor breaker panel. - Look for the AC or air handler breaker. If tripped, switch fully OFF, then ON once. Do not repeatedly reset. 4. Inspect the outdoor condenser disconnect. - Ensure the pull-out or switch by the condenser is fully inserted or ON. 5. Look at the condensate drain safety switch. - Many systems shut off if the drain pan is full. If you see standing water, turn the system OFF and call. 6. Give it a full 5 minutes. - After adjustments, wait. Many systems have a built-in delay before restarting. If cooling does not resume, move to the safety checks below and contact our team. Call or Text 24/7 at 770-341-2178. ## Safety first when your system is down Your comfort matters, but safety comes first. Avoid actions that can cause system damage or personal risk. - Do not pour refrigerant sealants or stop-leak products into the system. They can ruin compressors and void warranties. - Do not hose the indoor unit. Moisture can short electrical parts. - Do not continuously reset tripped breakers. One reset is enough. Repeated trips signal a fault that needs diagnosis. - Do turn the system OFF if you smell a burning odor, hear grinding, or see ice on the refrigerant lines. Ice means restricted airflow or low refrigerant. Let the ice melt before any test restart. - Do close sun-facing blinds and reduce heat load indoors to keep rooms safer while you wait. Moncrief technicians are professionally trained, licensed, and insured. We are background checked and drug tested, and we follow manufacturer procedures to keep your warranty intact. ## Quick DIY checks most homeowners can do in 10 minutes Many no-cool calls trace back to airflow or simple power issues. Try these low-risk checks before scheduling emergency AC repair. 1. Replace or reseat your air filter. - A clogged filter can freeze coils and shut the system down. Use the correct size and orientation. 2. Clear debris from the outdoor condenser. - Gently remove leaves and pollen buildup around the cabinet. Keep at least 18 inches of clearance. 3. Confirm doors and panels are closed. - The air handler door often has a safety switch. If the panel is loose, the unit will not run. 4. Check the float switch and drain line. - If the safety switch tripped due to a clogged drain, do not bypass it. You can try gently vacuuming the outdoor drain line if accessible. If water reappears, schedule service. 5. Verify vents and returns are open. - Blocked returns starve airflow and cause icing. Open supply registers at least 80 percent of the way. 6. Look for thermostat delays or schedule overrides. - Smart thermostats may hold schedules or delays. Try a temporary hold at 68 to 72 degrees for testing. If these do not restore cooling, it is time to call. Share what you tried to speed up diagnosis. ## When to call for emergency AC repair and what to tell the dispatcher Call immediately if you have any of the following: - Indoor temperature above 80 with vulnerable occupants, pets, or medical needs. - Breaker trips again after one reset. - Ice on the refrigerant lines or coil. - Burning smells, smoke, grinding, or a screech from the outdoor unit. - Water leaking from the indoor unit or ceiling. When you call Moncrief, have this info ready: - Thermostat reading, settings, and any error messages. - What you already tried from the checklist. - Age or brand of the system if known. - Any recent work, storms, or power events. - Accessibility details such as gate codes, attic access, or pets at home. Clear details help us bring the right parts and get you cooling fast. ## How Moncrief triages Atlanta emergencies 24/7 Your comfort cannot wait in Atlanta’s heat and humidity. Our team monitors demand spikes around afternoon storms, pine pollen peaks, and heat advisories to position techs for faster response. - Emergency Service Available. You can Call or Text 24/7. - Service Plan advantage. For our Total Comfort Service Plan customers, we guarantee same-day service on system problems. Parts and labor for covered repairs are included in the cost of maintenance. - Commercial readiness. If something is not right, we follow up to make it right. New system installations include a free one-year maintenance agreement. That keeps you on priority scheduling from day one. ## What your technician will do on arrival Expect a focused diagnostic that follows the manufacturer’s checklist. Our process is disciplined so you get a reliable fix, not a guess. 1. Interview and verify. - Confirm symptoms, thermostat behavior, and any odors or noises. 2. Electrical and safety checks. - Check circuit breakers, fuses, and wiring assemblies. Inspect start and run capacitors and contactors. 3. Airflow and mechanical. - Inspect blower operation, belts if present, indoor filter fit, and temperature drop across the coil. 4. Refrigerant system. - Verify refrigerant level, superheat or subcooling, and check for restrictions or icing. We do not add refrigerant without finding cause. 5. Outdoor condenser assessment. - Inspect condenser coil, cabinet, fan motor and blade, and temperature across the condenser coils. 6. Drainage and condensate protection. - Check and clear drain lines and ensure float switches operate. 7. Controls and calibration. - Check thermostat operation, settings, and any lockouts or delays. We document findings, present clear repair options, and proceed only with approval. No surprises. ## Cost, timing, and how to stay comfortable while you wait Every situation is different, but here is how we set expectations. - Timing. Many emergency AC repairs are diagnosed and repaired the same day. If a special-order part is needed, we stabilize the system and return quickly. - Pricing clarity. We provide upfront pricing before work begins. Service Plan customers often pay $0 for parts and labor on covered items. - Typical repairs. Common emergency issues include failed capacitors, contactors, blower motors, fan motors, and clogged drains. - Temporary cooling tips. 1. Close blinds and reduce oven and dryer use. 2. Use portable fans to move air across your skin to improve comfort. 3. Create a cool room by closing doors and focusing airflow where people are. 4. Hydrate and monitor pets and sensitive individuals. ## Prevent the next breakdown: proven maintenance that pays Breakdowns love neglected systems. Routine maintenance catches small problems before they become emergency AC repair calls. Our process mirrors the manufacturer’s checklist so your system runs safely and efficiently. Heating checks include items like: Check gas burners, pilot and tubing, flame baffle or ribbons, manifold pressure, gas input, burner air adjustment, thermocouple, gas valve, pilot safety, combustion chamber, ignition, change air filters, fan and limit control, thermostat, vent system, and overall operation. Air conditioning checks include: Check expansion valve, clean evaporator drain if needed, adjust bypass dampers if needed, clean or change standard 1 inch filters, check thermostat operation, circuit breakers and fuses, temperature drop, condenser cabinet and condenser, start and run capacitors, temperature across condenser coils, wiring assembly, refrigerant level, and blower. Our Total Comfort Service Plan is built to remove financial stress from repairs. "Save money with our Total Comfort Service Plan for twice annual maintenance, including free parts and labor on repairs." When you sign up, "we’ll schedule twice-yearly maintenance so you don’t have to. Plus, if your system experiences a problem, we guarantee same-day service with parts and labor included in the cost of maintenance." Hard facts that matter: - Moncrief has served Atlanta since 1898, the oldest HVAC company in the city by our records. - Licenses: HVAC CN210646 and Plumbing MP209933. Certifications across our team include NATE and EPA. If you recently replaced a system with us, you received a free one-year maintenance agreement. That means priority response from day one. ## What to try if the AC runs but air is warm Sometimes the system turns on but does not cool. Try these steps while you wait for service. 1. Set the fan to Auto, not On. 2. Replace the filter and inspect for ice on the indoor coil or outdoor lines. If ice is present, turn the system OFF and set the fan to On for 60 minutes to defrost. 3. Gently rinse pollen and lint from the outdoor coil fins using light water pressure from the top down. Avoid damaging fins. 4. Verify all registers are open and large furniture is not blocking returns. 5. If you recently had electrical work or storms, there may be voltage issues. Let us test capacitors and contactors. Warm air can signal a failed capacitor, low refrigerant due to a leak, a stuck reversing valve on a heat pump, or a failed outdoor fan. These need pro diagnostics. ## For homeowners in Atlanta and nearby suburbs Local conditions affect AC performance. - Pollen season. Pine pollen and cottonwood seed can blanket outdoor coils, choking airflow. - Summer storms. Frequent lightning and short outages can trip breakers and damage capacitors. - Humidity. High dew points increase run time and stress. Keep filters clean and drains clear. We serve Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Alpharetta, Marietta, Brookhaven, Smyrna, Lawrenceville, Snellville, Dunwoody, and more. We know the neighborhoods and the challenges. ## Quick checklist recap If your AC dies: 1. Thermostat to Cool, Auto, and 3 degrees lower than room temp. 2. Replace thermostat batteries if blank. 3. Check and reset the correct breaker once. 4. Confirm outdoor disconnect is ON. 5. Inspect for standing water in the drain pan and for ice on lines. 6. Replace the filter, open returns, and clear debris around the outdoor unit. 7. Call or Text 24/7 at 770-341-2178 if not cooling after 5 to 10 minutes. ## Special Offer: Emergency Savings Save $50 on any Emergency HVAC or Plumbing repair over $250. Atlanta HVAC Emergency Services: Quick Steps for Heat Pump Repair

*Estimated Read Time: 10 minutes* Heat pump out in the middle of a Georgia cold snap or a steamy afternoon? This guide gives you immediate, safe actions for emergency heat pump repair and how to prevent bigger damage before a pro arrives. If comfort is crashing fast, do these steps now, then call or text 24/7 for help. We also share how to spot a true emergency, what fixes you can try, and how to save on urgent repairs. ## First, Is It a True Emergency? When a heat pump quits, decide how urgent it is. The sooner you act, the safer your system and home. - Emergencies that need a pro now: 1. No heat in freezing temps or no cooling during extreme heat. 2. Burning smell, smoke, or sparking at the air handler or outdoor unit. 3. Water actively leaking from the indoor unit or ceiling. 4. Breaker tripping repeatedly when the unit starts. 5. Ice engulfing the outdoor unit or refrigerant lines. - Urgent but not life-safety: 1. System runs but airflow is weak. 2. Unit short cycles every 2 to 5 minutes. 3. Thermostat errors or sudden utility bill spikes. If you smell burning, see smoke, or hear popping, switch the heat pump off at the thermostat and the breaker. Safety first. ## Quick Stabilization Steps You Can Do Right Now Before a technician arrives, these checks can prevent extra damage and restore comfort faster. 1. Check the thermostat - Confirm Mode: Heat in winter, Cool in summer, Auto fan for most homes. - Bump the setpoint 2 to 3 degrees to force a call for heating or cooling. - If you have batteries, replace them. Weak batteries cause misreads. 2. Inspect the air filter - Dirty filters choke airflow and trigger high pressure or freeze-ups. - Replace 1 inch filters every 30 to 60 days in Atlanta’s pollen season. Heavy pine pollen can clog a filter in weeks. 3. Verify breakers and disconnects - Check the indoor air handler breaker and outdoor unit breaker. Reset once only. If it trips again, leave it off and call a pro. 4. Clear snow, leaves, or debris - Keep 18 to 24 inches clear around the outdoor unit. Georgia red clay dust and leaf litter can block airflow. 5. Melt ice the right way - If the outdoor unit is iced over, set the system to Off for 30 to 60 minutes and turn on Emergency Heat if available. Do not chip ice with tools. 6. Condensate drain attention - If water is pooling around the indoor unit, turn the system off. Empty the drain pan if accessible and safe. A clogged drain is common during heavy cooling. 7. Thermostat reboot - For smart thermostats, power cycle in the app or gently remove from the base for 30 seconds, then reseat. Reconnect Wi-Fi if needed. These steps often resolve minor issues and help your technician diagnose faster. ## Common Emergency Symptoms and What They Mean Understanding the likely cause helps you explain the problem on the phone and shorten repair time. - No heat in cold weather - Possible causes: Outdoor unit failure, defrost board issue, failed reversing valve, or auxiliary heat failure. - What to try: Switch to Emergency Heat if available. Confirm breakers on. Replace filter. If still no heat, call. - No cooling in hot weather - Possible causes: Low refrigerant, failed capacitor, dirty outdoor coil, or frozen evaporator. - What to try: Replace filter, set fan to On for 30 minutes to thaw, then back to Auto. Clear debris around the unit. - Short cycling or loud buzzing - Possible causes: Weak capacitor, compressor hard start, or safety lockout. - What to try: Do not keep restarting. Note any error codes and call. - Ice buildup on lines or outdoor unit - Possible causes: Low refrigerant or airflow restriction. - What to try: Turn system Off to thaw. Do not run cooling until a tech checks refrigerant and coil cleanliness. - Water leak indoors - Possible causes: Clogged condensate line, failed float switch, or frozen coil thawing. - What to try: Power Off. If safe, clear the drain cleanout with a small amount of vinegar. Schedule service. ## When to Use Emergency Heat and How It Works Emergency Heat is electric heat strips or a gas furnace backup that bypasses the outdoor unit. - When to use it: 1. The outdoor unit is iced over. 2. The outdoor unit is not running or is making harsh noises. 3. You smell burning at the outdoor unit. Turn the whole system off and only re-enable Emergency Heat if a technician instructs you to. - What to expect: - It restores heat but uses more electricity. It is a temporary bridge until the primary heat pump is fixed. ## What Not To Do During an Emergency Avoid costly mistakes while you wait for help. - Do not keep resetting a tripping breaker. This can damage the compressor. - Do not chip ice or pour hot water on coils. Let ice melt naturally. - Do not block return vents with furniture or rugs. - Do not run cooling with a clogged filter or iced coil. - Do not open the sealed refrigerant system yourself. It requires EPA-certified handling. ## How Pros Diagnose Emergency Heat Pump Failures A trained technician follows a logical process to isolate the fault safely. 1. Interview and visual inspection - Confirm symptoms, smells, noises, and error codes. - Look for scorch marks, water trails, and loose wiring. 2. Electrical health check - Test capacitors, contactor, and relay operation. - Confirm proper voltage and tight connections. 3. Airflow and mechanical checks - Verify clean filter, wheel, and blower amperage. - Inspect indoor coil, outdoor coil, and fan operation. 4. Refrigerant circuit analysis - Superheat and subcooling readings, pressures, and temperature splits. - Leak checks if low charge is suspected. 5. Controls and defrost verification - Thermostat signals, defrost board, sensors, and reversing valve action. Professionals use manufacturer procedures for your model to avoid damage and preserve warranties. ## Preventing the Next Emergency: Maintenance That Matters Atlanta’s seasons swing from damp cold to hot, humid summers. Preventive care avoids most breakdowns when you need comfort most. - Seasonal tune-ups - Heating and cooling checklists should include burners, ignition, safety controls, refrigerant levels, capacitors, wiring, thermostat operation, and filter service. - Keep airflow clean - Replace standard 1 inch filters often during pollen peaks. Consider a media cabinet for longer life and better filtration. - Keep drains clear - A simple vinegar rinse at the service port every 30 to 60 days in summer can prevent clogs. - Landscape smart - Trim shrubs to maintain 18 to 24 inches of clearance around the outdoor unit. Keep it above mulch height. - Document issues - Jot down dates and symptoms. Patterns help your tech solve faster and protect parts under warranty. "Save money with our Total Comfort Service Plan for twice annual maintenance, including free parts and labor on repairs." ## Why Choose a 24/7, Licensed Local Team for Emergencies Not all responders are equal when time and safety matter. - Availability that matches your need - "Emergency Service Available" and Call or Text 24/7 means you get help when others are closed. - Same-day help for plan customers - "When you sign up for our Total Comfort Service Plan, you can rest easy knowing we’ll schedule twice-yearly maintenance so you don’t have to. Plus, if your system experiences a problem, we guarantee same-day service—with parts and labor included in the cost of maintenance." - Proven qualifications - Licensed and insured. Background checked and drug tested. NATE and EPA certified technicians who follow ASHRAE-aligned best practices. - Deep Atlanta roots - More than a century serving neighborhoods from Sandy Springs to Decatur, where pine pollen and humidity challenge filters and coils. ## What It Might Cost and How Plans Protect You Emergency pricing depends on the fault and parts required. Service plan members enjoy real protection on common repairs. - Examples from the Service Plan page show covered customers pay $0 parts and labor on many repairs, including: 1. Fan Motor and Blade: $0 vs typical $600 to $850. 2. Indoor Blower Motor: $0 vs typical $1100 to $1230. If your system is new, ask about our free one-year maintenance agreement that comes with a new install. It includes scheduled tune-ups and priority care. ## Service Area and Fast-Track Scheduling Tips We respond quickly across Atlanta and nearby cities including Sandy Springs, Roswell, Alpharetta, Marietta, Brookhaven, Smyrna, Dunwoody, Lawrenceville, Snellville, and more. To get help faster when you call or text: 1. Share your thermostat brand and error codes. 2. Describe what you hear or smell. Buzzing, grinding, or burning are key clues. 3. Note steps you already tried. Filter changes or breaker resets help us plan parts. 4. Send a quick photo of the unit label if prompted. Model and serial numbers save time. ## DIY Fixes That Are Safe and Worth Trying These light-touch actions can restore operation without risk to your system. - Replace the thermostat batteries if your screen is dim or blank. - Reseat the float switch plug at the drain pan if accessible and safe. - Gently rinse the outdoor coil with a garden hose from the top down when the unit is off. Avoid pressure washers. - Clean supply and return grilles with a vacuum brush. If these do not help, stop and schedule service to avoid making the issue worse. ## Signs You Should Consider Repair vs Replace A fast rule keeps you from over-investing in an aging system during an emergency. - Consider repair when: 1. System is under 10 years old and the issue is single-component like a capacitor or contactor. 2. The repair is less than 30 percent of the cost of a new system. - Consider replacement when: 1. The compressor is failing and the system is older than 12 to 15 years. 2. You have repeated refrigerant leaks on legacy R-22 equipment. 3. Use Emergency Heat if the outdoor unit is iced over, not running, or making harsh noises. It restores heat but uses more power. Call a pro to diagnose the root cause. ### Is it safe to reset a tripped breaker more than once? No. Reset it a single time. If it trips again, turn the system off and schedule service. Repeated resets can damage the compressor or wiring. ### Can low refrigerant cause the heat pump to freeze up? Yes. Low charge and poor airflow are the top causes of ice on coils and lines. Turn the system off to thaw and call for service to check for leaks. ### What maintenance prevents emergency heat pump repairs? Change filters regularly, clear debris around the outdoor unit, keep drains clean, and schedule twice-yearly tune-ups with full heating and cooling checklists. ### Do you really offer same-day help for plan customers? Yes. Plan customers get same-day service on covered issues with parts and labor included, as stated in our Total Comfort Service Plan. ## Conclusion When comfort fails, act fast with safe steps, then schedule emergency heat pump repair from a licensed pro. Chamblee HVAC Emergency Services: Signs You Need Help

*Estimated Read Time: 12 minutes* When comfort or safety is at risk, you may be facing an HVAC emergency. If your furnace or AC fails during extreme Atlanta weather, do not wait. This guide explains what counts as an HVAC emergency, how to triage issues at home, and when to call Moncrief’s 24/7 team for rapid help. We’ll also cover ways to prevent breakdowns and lower repair costs, including our Total Comfort Service Plan. ## What Is Considered an HVAC Emergency? An HVAC emergency is any heating, cooling, or ventilation failure that threatens safety, risks property damage, or makes your home unlivable. In Atlanta’s climate, loss of heat during freezing nights or loss of cooling during peak heat can be dangerous for kids, older adults, and pets. Anytime you smell gas, see sparking or smoke, or your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, treat it as urgent and get professional help immediately. Common emergency triggers include: 1. Gas odors or a triggered carbon monoxide alarm. 2. Electrical burning smell, smoke, or visible arcing at the air handler or condenser. 3. No heat during a cold snap or no cooling during a heat wave. 4. Water leaks from the furnace or air handler that can damage ceilings or floors. 5. Frozen refrigerant lines and ice buildup on the coil. 6. Rapid on-off cycling, breaker trips, or equipment that will not start. 7. Indoor air quality issues that cause breathing discomfort or visible mold. > "We needed an emergency call due to a failing system and they responded the same day. Excellent service." ## Immediate Safety First: What To Do Before You Call If you suspect danger, prioritize safety. - If you smell gas, evacuate. Do not operate electronics or switches. From a safe place, call your gas utility and 770-341-2178. - If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the home and call 911, then contact us. - If you see smoke, sparks, or smell burning plastic, switch the HVAC system off at the thermostat and the breaker. Call 770-341-2178. - If water is dripping from ceilings near an air handler, turn the system off and place a pan or towels to limit damage, then call. Quick checks that may avoid a service call: 1. Thermostat set to Heat or Cool and batteries fresh. 2. Air filter not clogged. Replace if it is gray or bowed. 3. Breakers not tripped. If tripped, reset once only. If it trips again, call. 4. Outdoor condenser clear of debris and leaves. 5. Condensate safety switch not tripped. If it is, clear the drain if you know how, or call for help. > "They came out immediately, within hours after I called, and spent an hour diagnosing the issue... They thoroughly explained the problem." ## No Heat in Winter: When It Is an Emergency Metro Atlanta can see freeze warnings and wind chills that make a cold home unsafe. If your furnace stops producing heat and indoor temps drop below 60, especially with infants, elderly, or medical needs at home, treat it as an HVAC emergency. Likely causes: - Ignition failure, failed flame sensor, or gas valve issues. - Blower motor failure or control board faults. - Clogged filters or blocked flue vent. Do this now: - Confirm the thermostat is set to Heat and set a target 3 to 5 degrees above room temperature. - Check the furnace switch near the unit. It should be On. - Inspect or replace the filter. When to call immediately: - You smell gas or see soot around the furnace cabinet. - The furnace cycles repeatedly without heating or makes loud bangs. > "Moncrief goes the extra mile... they have taken care of both the rare emergency when compressors fail or unit replacement to regular maintenance." ## No Cooling in Summer: Heat Wave Urgency in Atlanta Atlanta summers combine heat and high humidity. Loss of cooling can drive indoor humidity above 60 percent, risking mold growth and heat stress. If your AC is blowing warm air or the system is running non-stop without dropping the temperature, that can be an HVAC emergency during extreme heat. Likely causes: - Low refrigerant or a refrigerant leak. - Failed capacitor, compressor, or condenser fan motor. - Frozen evaporator coil due to poor airflow or low refrigerant. Do this now: - Set the thermostat to Off and Fan On for 30 minutes if you see icing. Then resume Cool. - Replace a dirty filter and clear debris from the outdoor unit. Call immediately if: - The breaker trips repeatedly. - You smell burning or the outdoor unit is silent with a humming sound. > "On time as always!! They are great, fast, efficient and easy to get an appointment. Will always try to get you someone there if you have an emergency." ## Water Leaks, Frozen Lines, and Ceiling Stains Condensate clogs are common in humid seasons and during Atlanta’s spring pollen surge. A backed-up drain can trigger a float switch, shut the system down, or worse, overflow and stain ceilings. Urgent signs: - Water around the indoor unit, wet insulation, or a rusted secondary drain pan. - Ice on the refrigerant lines, especially at the air handler. What to do: - Turn the system Off to stop water production. - Place towels or a pan under active drips. - Do not chip ice from lines. Let it thaw while the Fan runs. Why this matters: Water damage spreads fast and can warp flooring and drywall. Left unchecked, moisture can feed mold. > "We have used Moncrief over 20 years... in two emergency situations. Moncrief saves the day - yet again!" ## Burning Smell, Electrical Issues, and Loud Noises Acrid or electrical burning odors usually point to overheating components like blower motors, capacitors, or wiring. Popping breakers, flickering lights when the system starts, grinding or screeching noises, and smoke are all stop-now emergencies. Actions to take: - Switch the system Off at thermostat and breaker. - Do not try to restart. Call 770-341-2178 for 24/7 emergency service. Moncrief’s licensed technicians will perform safe diagnostics. Many electrical failures can be corrected the same day, and parts are stocked on service vehicles for common repairs. ## Air Quality and Carbon Monoxide Concerns Poor ventilation or a cracked heat exchanger can lead to carbon monoxide risk. A musty, moldy smell near vents can signal condensate or duct issues. If your CO detector sounds, evacuate and call 911. Do not re-enter until cleared by authorities. Then contact us for a full safety inspection. Our team follows manufacturer checklists and industry guidance to restore safe operation. For gas heat, we verify combustion, venting, and safety controls. For AC, we check refrigerant charge, airflow, and electrical integrity. ## How Moncrief Handles Your Emergency Call When you contact Moncrief Heating & Air Conditioning, you get clarity, speed, and safety. 1. 24/7 access. Call or Text 24/7 at 770-341-2178. A live specialist triages your issue. 2. Rapid scheduling. We prioritize no-heat, no-cool, water damage, and safety alerts. 3. Technician tracking. With Moncrief’s Total Comfort Service Plan, we schedule twice-yearly maintenance so you do not have to. The plan states: "When you sign up for our Total Comfort Service Plan, you can rest easy knowing we’ll schedule twice-yearly maintenance so you don’t have to. Plus, if your system experiences a problem, we guarantee same-day service—with parts and labor included in the cost of maintenance." Included protections and examples: - Twice-annual precision tune-ups aligned to manufacturer checklists. - Same-day service guarantee for covered customers. - Parts and labor included on listed common repairs. Examples from the plan page show items like a fan motor and blade at $0 to you versus typical $600 to $850 and indoor blower motor at $0 versus $1100 to $1230 when covered by the plan. What we inspect on heating visits includes: - Gas burners, pilot and tubing, flame baffle or ribbons. - Manifold pressure, gas input, burner air adjustment. - Thermocouple, gas valve, pilot safety. - Combustion chamber, ignition, air filters. - Fan and limit control, thermostat, vent system, full operation. What we inspect on cooling visits includes: - Expansion valve, evaporator drain and bypass dampers if needed. - Standard 1 inch filters, thermostat operation. - Breakers and fuses, temperature drop. - Condenser cabinet and coils, start and run capacitors. - Wiring assembly, refrigerant level, blower. Bonus for new systems: All new HVAC installations include equipment warranties and a free one-year maintenance agreement. ## Can It Wait Until Morning? Quick Decision Guide It is likely an emergency if any of the following apply: - Safety risk: gas smell, CO alarm, smoke, sparking, or water near electrical. - Vulnerable occupants: infants, older adults, pets, or medical equipment at home. - Extreme weather: freeze warnings or heat advisories in your area. It may wait until normal hours when: - The system cools or heats but is slightly underperforming without safety signs. - A clogged filter or thermostat setting is the only issue. - Noise is minor and no electrical burning smell is present. If you are unsure, call us. We will help you decide and can book the right visit type. ## What Emergency HVAC Service Costs and How to Save Emergency service typically includes a diagnostic visit and the repair. Costs vary by part and system type. You can reduce total cost by: 1. Acting fast to prevent secondary damage like ceiling leaks. 2. Keeping filters clean and outdoor units clear. 3. Enrolling in the Total Comfort Service Plan to cover many common parts and labor and to secure same-day response. 4. Using active coupons when you schedule. For straightforward issues like failed capacitors or clogged drains, many repairs are completed in one trip. Larger items like compressors or blower assemblies may require ordered parts, but we will stabilize the system and prevent further damage right away. ## Commercial and Light-Commercial Emergencies If your business loses heating or cooling, comfort and productivity can suffer. We provide commercial diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance, aligning with industry guidance such as ASHRAE standards. Plan customers receive the same-day service priority on covered issues, reducing downtime. ## Our Atlanta-Area Coverage We proudly respond across Metro Atlanta, including: - Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Lawrenceville, Roswell, Alpharetta - Marietta, Brookhaven, Smyrna, Snellville, Dunwoody Local insight: When spring pine pollen coats outdoor units or summer storms drop leaves into fan guards, airflow drops and parts overheat. Sandy Springs Emergency HVAC Services Cost Guide

*Estimated Read Time: 11 minutes* If your home is warming up fast, you’re likely wondering about emergency AC repair cost and how quickly help can arrive. Here’s the short answer: we offer 24/7 service with clear pricing, and plan members receive guaranteed same-day service with parts and labor included on covered repairs. Keep reading for typical Atlanta price ranges, what drives the total, and smart ways to cut the bill without cutting corners. ## What Counts as an Emergency and How Pricing Works Not every AC problem needs a 2 a.m. dispatch, but some do. True emergencies include no cooling during extreme heat, burning smells, electrical short cycling, water leaks threatening ceilings, or a frozen system that will cause damage if it keeps running. If you’re unsure, call or text us 24/7 and we’ll help you decide what timing is best and most cost effective. Emergency pricing typically has three parts: 1. Diagnostic and dispatch fee • Standard business hours often range from $79 to $149 in the Atlanta area. • After-hours or holiday dispatch can add $50 to $200 depending on time and demand. 2. Repair time and parts • Labor is billed by task or hour. Parts vary widely by brand and availability. 3. Trip or specialty charges when applicable • Roof access, permit pulls, or complex diagnostics may add cost. Plan customers have a different experience. With our Total Comfort Service Plan you get twice-yearly maintenance and, if a problem occurs, we guarantee same-day service with parts and labor included on covered repairs. That promise turns a surprise expense into a predictable one. > “Call or Text 24/7.” We’ll guide you on urgency, safe shutdown steps, and next actions before we arrive. ## Typical Emergency AC Repair Cost Ranges in Atlanta While every home is different, these ranges reflect what homeowners commonly see for urgent AC fixes: - Start/run capacitor: $120 to $300 - Contactor or relay: $150 to $350 - Thermostat replacement: $150 to $500 - Condensate drain cleaning or safety switch: $120 to $350 - Refrigerant leak check: $200 to $600 - Refrigerant recharge (R-410A): $80 to $150 per pound plus recovery and testing - Outdoor fan motor: $450 to $900 - Indoor blower motor: $600 to $1,200 - Evaporator coil repair or replacement: $1,200 to $2,500 - Compressor replacement: $1,800 to $3,500 Two factors swing price the most: whether the part is in-stock locally and whether access is simple. Attic units in tight spaces, rooftop condensers, or complex variable-speed systems can add time and cost. We will always lay out options before work begins. ## What Drives Your Final Bill During an Emergency Several elements influence emergency AC repair cost. Knowing them helps you control what you can and understand what you can’t. 1. Timing of the call • Nights, weekends, and holidays can add dispatch premiums. 2. Equipment type and age • Older systems may require obsolete parts or conversion kits. Inverter or communicating systems need specialty components. 3. Brand and warranty status • Parts under manufacturer warranty reduce cost, though labor and refrigerant may not be covered. 4. Refrigerant type • R-22 systems are costly to service due to phaseout. R-410A is more common and affordable per pound. 5. Accessibility and code compliance • Attic ladders, crawlspaces, and roof work add time. Any code-related corrections must be brought up to standard for safety. Moncrief technicians are EPA Section 608 certified and operate under Georgia Unrestricted Conditioned Air License CN210646. That means your refrigerant handling and repairs meet federal and state requirements, which protects your system and your warranty. ## How We Troubleshoot and Price Repairs On-Site Transparency removes the stress from emergency service. Here is what typically happens when we arrive: 1. Safety and problem verification • We check power, thermostat communication, and system status. We shut down unsafe equipment to prevent further damage. 2. Root-cause diagnostics • Electrical testing for capacitors, contactors, fuses, and motors. • Airflow and static pressure checks to prevent repeat failures. • Refrigerant circuit evaluation, including superheat/subcooling and leak inspection if needed. 3. Options and pricing • We present good, better, best solutions with clear line items. If a part is warranted, we document it. 4. Repair and test • We complete the repair, verify temperature split and performance, and share maintenance tips to avoid repeat issues. Our goal is one-visit fixes whenever parts are available. When specialty parts are needed, we secure the order and provide safe interim steps. ## Save Money Fast: The Total Comfort Service Plan Advantage Emergency events are stressful because the timing is never convenient. Our plan was designed to reduce both emergencies and their cost. - “Save money with our Total Comfort Service Plan for twice annual maintenance, including free parts and labor on repairs.” - “When you sign up for our Total Comfort Service Plan, you can rest easy knowing we’ll schedule twice-yearly maintenance so you don’t have to. Plus, if your system experiences a problem, we guarantee same-day service—with parts and labor included in the cost of maintenance.” Examples of covered items on the plan’s comparison chart include parts like fan motors and indoor blower motors that commonly fail during summer peaks. For many homeowners, a single covered repair offsets the plan investment for years. ## Repair vs. Replace During an Emergency No homeowner wants to make a rushed decision. Use these rules of thumb to find the smart path. - Age over 12 years and compressor, coil, or repeated leak issues • Replacement often wins on total cost of ownership. - Frequent repairs in the last 24 months • Add them up. If you are nearing 30 to 40 percent of a new system, consider change-out. - R-22 refrigerant system with major component failure • Replacement is usually more cost effective due to refrigerant availability and efficiency gains. - High utility bills or uneven cooling • A right-sized, higher SEER2 system can lower monthly costs and improve comfort. When replacement is the better choice, every new installation from Moncrief includes a free one-year maintenance agreement and manufacturer equipment warranties. We also follow ACCA and ASHRAE guidance for load calculations and airflow, so your new system performs as promised. ## The Hidden Cost of Skipping Maintenance Many emergencies start as small issues. Our tune-ups are built around manufacturer checklists so we catch problems early. Typical items include: - Heating checks: gas burners, pilot and tubing, flame baffle, manifold pressure, gas input, burner air adjustment, thermocouple, gas valve, pilot safety, combustion chamber, ignition, air filters, fan and limit control, thermostat, vent system, and full operation. - Air conditioning checks: expansion valve, evaporator drain cleaning if needed, bypass dampers if needed, standard 1-inch filter change, thermostat operation, breakers and fuses, temperature drop, condenser cabinet, condenser, start and run capacitors, temperature across condenser coils, wiring assembly, refrigerant level, and blower. Customers on the plan see fewer emergencies and faster response if something still breaks. That is how you turn peak-season chaos into calm. ## Local Insight: Why Atlanta Summers Spike Emergency Costs In June and July, Atlanta heat and humidity push systems to their limit. Homes in Sandy Springs, Roswell, and Marietta with attic air handlers run hotter rooflines, which dries out capacitors and strains blower motors. Afternoon thunderstorms can trip breakers and flood condensate lines. During these peaks, some parts move fast. Early calls get local inventory, which keeps costs down and speeds the repair. Pro tip for older homes in Buckhead or Decatur with original ductwork: inadequate return air can overheat compressors and motors. A quick static pressure check during maintenance often prevents a midsummer emergency. ## How to Control Costs Before We Arrive If it is safe and you can access your thermostat and filter, try these steps: 1. Turn the system off for 15 minutes if you see frost on lines or the indoor coil. 2. Replace a dirty 1-inch filter to restore airflow. 3. Check the thermostat batteries and settings. Confirm it is set to cool. 4. Verify the outdoor disconnect is on and breakers are not tripped. 5. Clear debris from the outdoor fan grille. If there is a burning smell, water near the air handler, or repeated breaker trips, shut the system off and call us. We will protect your equipment and your home first, then fix the root cause. ## What Moncrief Brings to an Emergency Call - 24/7 availability with live phone and text support. - Licensed and insured pros with EPA 608, NATE, and NCI credentials. - Georgia license numbers publicly listed: HVAC Lic # CN210646 and PLMB Lic # MP209933. - Upfront options and financing on larger repairs or replacements. - Follow-up after your appointment to ensure satisfaction.
